I teach from my North London Music Studio, face to face as well as using online platforms for remote teaching such as Skype and Zoom. My teaching locations offer a variety of options although primarily teaching in my music studio and in the schools I work at. I am also a qualified University lecturer and since 2023 have enjoyed working in this sector again while writing my PhD thesis about music, being part of an ethics committee and exploring how music can be transformational to many, especially music experiences for those who find it hard to access music education opportunities. This is also highly relevant to my work as a cello teacher and an academic.
I have over 25 years of experience and dedication teaching children from early years through to adults both cello and piano. Some learners play for the fun and social aspect of playing an instrument where others make music part of their life path. During and after the intense COVID19 period we have all endured, I have found some new ways of working and focus on the wellbeing of the student as priority, whether or not they plan to work intensely towards a music career or the higher levels.
It has been extremely rewarding to witness how the music I am teaching has helped many through difficult times of isolation and has provided a way in which to develop self expression in this unique way. I enjoy helping pupils of all ages find the right approach and individual targets. My teaching also extends to visiting lectures for Higher Education and PhD research in the field of music education and transformation, all relevant to my private practice. This gives me a deeper understanding of the students I work with in my home studio or in University or schools.
For those wanting to pursue exams I carefully prepare each student from initial to grade 8 and beyond using ABRSM and Trinity Guildhall exam boards. My pupils enjoy taking part in termly concerts, whether online or in a concert room, music aptitude tests leading to music places at desirable senior schools such as North London Collegiate, Dame Alice Owens, Latymer, Ashmole Academy The Purcell School and Haberdashers Aske’s to name a few.
Some have gone on to study music at university and music college making music their profession too. If you would like to learn or find a new teaching approach specialising in technique performance techniques and the joy of music with a highly experienced professional please be in touch via the contact form and I would love to hear from you.
